Dear SD Econ,

Thank you for those who could attend the meeting this Valentine's Day. We appreciate your love of SD and Econ. We hope that it won't turn out like Romeo and Juliet's story. Prof. Radzicki built an SD model of that tragedy (I prefer comedies):

  • SD Econ Social Media
  • Other Econ Groups that we may collaborate with e.g.
    - Ecological Economists
    - Behavioral/Experimental Economists
  • Aspirations/Goals: Website/page on SDS like what the Conflict, Defense and Security SIG has
    - Repository
    - Molecules
    - Biographies of SDS Econ folks
    - 20 min video tutorials on SD and econ
    - Short videos of models with big impact (e.g. En-ROADS)
  • Videos from WPI Systems Thinking Colloquium 2019 are up
    Gene Bellinger - Storyteller

"DSRP is Universal to Systems Thinking"
Derek Cabrera, PhD and Laura Cabrera, PhD - Cornell University

"Perspectives on Systems Thinking: An Integrative System Dynamics Approach"
Robert Y. Cavana - Reader in Systems Science, Victoria Business School, Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand

"Systems Thinking: The Elephant in the Room"
Joseph E. Kasser - DSc, CEng, CM, FIET, FIES, FINCOSE, CMALT, G3ZCZ

    "Systems Thinking: An Economist’s Perspective"
Michael J. Radzicki, Ph.D. - Worcester Polytechnic Institute

    "Reflections on Systems Thinking"
Donna H. Rhodes - Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    "My Take on System Dynamics"
Khalid Saeed - Professor of Economics and System Dynamics, Worcester Polytechnic Institute

"Systems Thinking: A Catalyst for Purposeful Change"
David Peter Stroh - Principal, Bridgeway Partners and Author, Systems Thinking for Social Change

"Why Systems Thinking is Not a Natural Act"
Ricardo Valerdi - University of Arizona

To Do:
- Create a survey requesting feedback on people's interest in Thermo 2.0, information for the webpage (bios, videos, etc.), info to know who is in SDS Econ (students, professors, professionals, etc.), what you are interested in (e.g. macro, micro, health, etc.) and other feedback.
- Figure out how to get a page on SDS and create content for page.

As always, please feel free to email me [email protected] or message me on various social media platforms if you have any questions or comments...especially if I forgot something.

Please also let me know if you would like to volunteer to aid in running this group. As I have said, I did not/have not studied much economics and would like to have folks who know econ or SD and will make time to post on our various social media platforms.

Hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend!

I just realized that I forgot about the messages from the Zoom chat and updates from the Feedback Economics book.

"From Brian Evarts: Mathias Ruth and Bruce Hannon "Modeling Dynamic Economic Systems" is a good source for SD and Micro

Online MOOCs like Coursera and Udemy are hugely popular... and Steve Keen's Youtube channel are very popular"
I forgot what we were talking about in the first comment. The second comment is a response to the 20 min tutorials idea. Then ?? recommended e-books. I second that. I prefer reading over listening.

More To Do:
- Think about the mission statement/goal of SDS Econ...and if we want to have different branches/subgroups
- Plan events/Collective Learning Meetings (CLMs) such as practical/technical meetings (e.g. technology demos). Len will contact ?? and email CT about a potential speaker for April 10th 2-3PM ET (Boston time). DONE. Schedule speaker.
- Create SD Econ calendar

For those who heard about/seen information about and are interested in Thermo 2.0, please wait for more details.

We apologize for the poor communication. There are some logistical issues that we need to resolve.

Hi, i´m new SDS member i want to know about next meetings or events for the economic chapter.

I am a Latin American economist, specialized in financial systems (20 years as an advisor) and behavioral economics.
Currently, I am working on modeling with systems dynamics the banking impact of the anti-crisis policies of Latin American banks for the short and medium term.
However, after all these years, it is until very recently that the environment has been created in Latin America to use this type of modeling, both at the macroeconomic level and in specific financial systems, so I am very excited to be able to use these forums to exchange ideas and learn from their experience.

Welcome, Mr. Sandoval.

I aid Prof. Mike Radzicki in coordinating meetings for the Economics Special Interest Group. I apologize for the late reply and will make a note to check this board more often.

We have not met for a while but when we have a presenter then I will email the SDS Econ SIG mailing list.

Well wishes,

Thank you very much for your attention and, by the way, I would like to know if the group has any other meeting points or discussion groups. I am very eager for information on the new economic and social visions of system dynamics.

Thank you for messaging.

Below are links to other places for discussion of SD and econ.

I have to admit that these discussion platforms are underutilized. I am not an economist and hope trained economists will address the utility of these services :)

People seem to prefer virtual meetings. If you or anyone has a model to share, then please feel free to contact me and I can set up a Zoom meeting and market it. Usually the Econ SIG meetings have more developed models.

I also organize the WPI Collective Learning Meetings which is for beginner or works-in-progress modeling efforts.

p.s. I learned how to set up email notifications for the forums. For those who are interested:

1. After logging into the SDS site, click on the "My Profile" link. If you are already signed in, hover over the "Members" tab, click on "Profile"

2. Hover over "My Profile" and click on "Contact Preferences"

3. Specify notification preferences

Thank you very much for your attention again, about the WPI Collective Learning Meetings, where I can found it? sound very interesting.

About Models, recently I was working in the Covid-19 Credit Policy Banking Impact Models and Banking General Equilibrium Model, the first is almost ended and the other still working model. Actually, I wrote in another forum about formal requirements for the presentation of SD models, because I worked a lot about models in bayesian o computational simple forms, but I'm basically new using the SD kind of models.

Finally thank you for the notifications tips.

Recordings of some of the past CLMs are on YouTube:

Below is a link to sign up to be on the WPI System Dynamics Club mailing list:

I notify those on the mailing list when we have a CLM. WPI folks who have permission to email the list send information about job opportunities conferences, call for papers, etc. People can also email me to forward information to the WPI SD list.

Here are is a link to the most recent emails:

I also post about the CLMs and the newletter on social media:
WPI SD Twitter:
WPI SD LinkedIn:
and in various other groups

the most active SD social media group is
