Abstract for: Pumping Station for the Future: designing under uncertainty
Dutch polders with pumping station are an example of extensively modeled systems. Large hydrological models can accurately describe the current behavior of the water system. Uncertainties about climate change and the energy market constitute a new challenge for these polders and pumping stations. In this research, a fast SD model of pumping station Vissering in the Dutch Noordoostpolder was used to simulate a large set of design choices and future scenarios. By analyzing the spread of resulting performance we were able to identify a robust re-design for the pumping station with satisfactory performance over all future scenarios.
