Ralf Lippold talks about surfacing mental models and opening them to
challenge in the context of building shared vision.
I've recently been facilitating conversations at work where the process
is centered on the future people want. I've found that while the future
anyone wants is shaped by their mental models of the past/present,
speaking of a desired future skips over, in large part, the
problematizing of the past/present. As such, the challenging that takes
place emerges around the "even better future" that one person sees as a
function of building on someone else's picture of their desired future.
The result is a strong shared vision, it resonates with passion, and
people make public promises to bring the future into the present.
