I wonder if the exercises you mention would strike a receptive chord with
the audience. FWIW, it seems to me that you'd more effectively reach them
through some cases and examples that are a fit with their experiences.
Stocks and flows sure sound like a fit with inmates passing through the
system; causal loops seem like a good way of examining the factors
contributing to unrest on the inside; prisoner culture and the dynamics
of interactions with the correctional officers seems another. As for
"strategic thinking," I'm curious as to what you have in mind on that score.
My guess is that, for the audience in question, you would be well served by
coming at that subject from a more or less military perspective. I don't
think a business orientation is going to fit well with their mindsets or
mental models.
With your permission, I'll pass along your inquiry to a fellow I know in the
training and development business who used to work in Florida's correctional
system. He might have some ideas.
