Dear System Dynamics Folk:
I'm writing to point you towards a system dynamics application in the area
of climate policy and systems education. Building on the experimental work
by John Sterman and Linda Booth Sweeney on the public misunderstanding of
climate stock/flow dynamics as well as the interactive Sims of John and Juan
F Martin, we at Sustainability Institute have been working with a team
including John, Juan and Linda, but also Peter Senge, Tom Fiddaman, Nate
Senge, and Michael Tempel of SEED to create an animated interactive bathtub
stock/flow simulator on climate dynamics. The SD model underneath it is
Tom's thesis model.
SEED (Schlumberger's education program) has just posted the first version,
which is intended for 10-18 year olds. Check it out at:
http://www.seed.slb.com/en/scictr/watch/climate_change/challenge.htm
We are open to feedback. Send me an email with your ideas.
This is intended to be the first in a set of 5 Sims that explore climate
dynamics. Let me know if you'd like to see our ideas on the other 4 that
are needed.
