There have been several references in this conversation to beginning group
problem discussions with small models that help to focus the group. If
the group has asked for system dynamics support, one such beginning are
the so-called "concept" models that the Albany group has long used to
introduce elements of the system dynamics approach and to get a quick
start on the group's problem.
A conference paper on Concept Models is available in the "Papers on Line"
section of my web site, http://www.albany.edu/~gpr/Papers.html.
I should note, however, that in spite of my enthusiasm for concept models,
using them to get started with a group doesn't solve all the interesting
problems people are rasing in this discussion.
