Population and agent-based modeling

We've been working on simulating country-level population, and the topic of agent-based modeling came up. It seems that several years ago there was quite a strong negative reaction to the population sector in Limits to Growth (World3) from someone in the agent-based modeling community. The recollection is that the reaction appeared in an academic journal. However, after several different approaches to finding the paper (different search engines, phone calls, emails to colleagues), the paper hasn't popped up. Perhaps an Open Discussion participant can help?
