Folks,

I am pleased to announce the publication of my book entitled “Quality Uncertainty and Perception”. The book is published by Physica-Verlag, a Springer company.

The book addresses the complex issue of quality uncertainty due to information asymmetry in the backdrop of information economics, total quality management and marketing science. Reliability Engineering, Seven Management Tools and System Dynamics are used to develop theories on quality uncertainty and perception. Quality perception is identified as a multidisciplinary measure of business performance. The tools are developed to minimize quality uncertainty or to maximize quality perception. A few worksheets are provided for applying these theories to improve business performance.

Keywords » Quality Uncertainty - Perceived Quality - Root Cause and Failure Analysis - System Dynamics - Total Quality Management

Related subjects » Innovation - Technology Management - Organization - Human Resource Management - Production & Logistics - Production & Process Engineering

Information about the print edition can be found at:
http://www.springer.com/alert/urltracking.do?id=L14ddfbM624022Sa8a8b69

Its unique electronic identifier: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-7908-2195-6

Hope you will find this book very interesting.

REMINDER 2nd CfP Special Issue IJITSA

Postby Peter Otto » Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:04 pm

********************* REMINDER 2nd CALL FOR PAPERS *********************

SUBMISSION DUE DATE: September 30, 2010

SPECIAL ISSUE ON System Dynamics and other Simulation-based Approaches for Information Systems
International Journal of Information Technologies and the Systems Approach (IJITSA)

Guest Editors:
Dr. Peter Otto, Union Graduate College, USA
Dr. Andrej Skraba, University of Maribor, Slovenia

INTRODUCTION:
IS research aims to help decision-makers understand and anticipate opportunities to deploy IS and adding business value for organizations in today’s competitive environment. Decisions concerning IS are complex and challenging for a decision-maker; time pressure, incomplete information, unknown feedback loops, organizational contexts, and selfish motivations strongly influence such decisions. Inadequate decisions and subsequent actions might lead to undesired results. Enhancing the knowledge of gaining business value from IS is possible by achieving insights into the complex behavior of the system and the interaction among decision variables. Using simulation models permit the testing of various assumptions and provide decision-makers with the ability to explore the consequences of various scenarios and alternative functional relationships among variables in the system.

OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE:
It is important to gain a broader, systemic view on the management and control problems in the fields of systems engineering, software engineering and information systems. This would contribute to better understanding of underlying system structure, dynamics and possibilities for efficient control. Papers in the special issue should therefore address practical application of System Dynamics and other simulation-based approaches in the field of Information Systems to improve understanding of business structures and decision making. Methodological papers as well as case studies are welcome.

RECOMMENDED TOPICS:
Topics to be discussed in this special issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Diffusion of new IS technology
• IS development
• IS-individuals interaction
• Implementation issues
• Outsourcing and country selection issues
• Social media and Web 2.0 issues
• Health informatics
• E-commerce and web-enabled delivery systems
• CRM, SCM applications
• Models and dynamics of efficient application of human resources and knowledge
• Organization structure, dynamics and improvements
• Optimization of systems engineering, software engineering and information systems by system dynamics models
• Sustainable financing dynamics in IT projects

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers for this special theme issue System Dynamics and Other Simulation-Based Approaches for Information Systems on or before September 30, 2010. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. INTERESTED AUTHORS SHOULD CONSULT THE JOURNAL’S GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSIONS at http://www.igi-global.com/development/a ... ission.pdf. All submitted papers will be reviewed on a double-blind, peer review basis. Papers must follow APA style for reference citations.

Dear All,

I have published an e-book "HOW TO WRITE AND PUBLISH A RESEARCH PAPER" at Amazon Kindle. The book is priced at $11.00. The book is based on my publication experiences. It is highly informative and helpful to those who are enagaged in research work.

The book written in lucid style covers almost evry part ––from preliminary information to a conference paper to a journal manuscript to review and revision to further possible work in the area.

You can try the book and recommend it to others.

Publication of MODELING THE ENVIRONMENT

Postby Andrew Ford » Thu Mar 25, 2010 11:09 pm

Folks,
I am pleased to announce the publication of the 2nd edition of my text on Modeling the Environment. The book is available from Island Press:

http://www.islandpress.com/bookstore/details.php?prod_id=1931

and the book’s supporting website is at: http://www.wsu.edu/~forda/AA2nd.html

The publisher’s summary describes System Dynamics as one of the most widely known and widely used methods of modeling. The fundamental principles of system dynamics are demonstrated in the book with examples from geo-hydrology, population biology, epidemiology and economics. The applications demonstrate the transferability of the systems approach across disciplines, across spatial scales, and across time scales. All of the models are implemented with stock and flow software programs such as Stella and Vensim.

The publisher’s sumary concludes that:

System dynamics has emerged as the most common approach in collaborative projects to address environmental problems. The stock and flow structures and the emphasis on feedback control provide a common language that is understood by scientists from many disciplines. Although the interdisciplinary approach described here is widely used in practice, there are few books to aid instruction. Modeling the Environment meets the urgent need for instructional materials in interdisciplinary modeling of environmental systems. Operations Research in the
Public Sector and Nonprofit Organizations

Zilla Sinuany-Stern and H. David Sherman

We invite submission for a forthcoming special volume of the Annals of Operations Research (AOR) on Operations Research in the Public Sector and Nonprofit Organizations. These sectors have been growing substantially in the past decade and are expected to continue growing in light of the current economic crises. The types of organizations include: government on all levels, legal and law enforcement authorities, education, healthcare, art, charitable, social, international institutions, etc. The OR techniques may range from LP, NLP, DEA, decision analysis and AHP to goal programming, data mining, queuing, simulation, etc. We invite high quality research papers, innovative case studies, and state of the art and survey articles with OR applications to the public sector and nonprofit organizations.

If you intend to contribute to this special volume please contact the Guest Editors either by email or regular mail, as soon as possible. Sending an optional letter (or email) of intent specifying the area of contribution (type of organization and type of OR technique used) would greatly help the planning of this special volume.
