Installing the Files

INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM DYNAMICS BIBLIOGRAPHY

THE FILES ARE LARGE! Most users will wish to install only one of them.

Sdtext.year
Sdend.year
Sdtab.year

THE BIBLIOGRAPHY DATA IS ARRANGED IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT, BASED ON THE TITLE.

Sdtext.year = text file (no formatting).
Sdend.year = Endnote (r) file.
Sdtab.year = database compatible (tab delimited).

Decide which application program type you want to use and then install the related file to your computer.

CHOOSING WHICH FILE TYPE TO INSTALL:

1. Sdtext.year

This is an ASCII text file for ordinary word processor programs. Using a word processor, you may search for individual references and print them one at a time or collectively store multiple citations in a clipboard for printing later as a group. You may also cut and paste directly from the data file into another open document you are writing. You cannot sort the records or change the citations' appearance with a single command.

2. Sdend.year

This file is compatible with the "EndNote" bibliography management program. Using EndNote, you may import the EndNote compatible data file and perform the same operations as any commercial database application program. In addition, you can easily copy your selected citations to an open document. With a single command you can alter a citation's appearance to one of many professional and academic display styles such as "Chicago Manual of Style", "MLA", "Scientific", and "Author/Date", among others, for inclusion in your open documents.

3. Sdtab.year

This is a database file in delimited format between fields, and CR/LF between records. DOS: commas between fields, each field surrounded by "double quotes" and CR between records. It is designed to facilitate importing the data to most database management programs.

Using database programs such as FILEMAKER or Microsoft ACCESS, you may import the tab-delimited file to that database program. Database programs typically let you search for individual or groups of records or sort them and then print your selections. It may be difficult or impossible to cut and paste citations to another document when using database application programs. Also, it may be impossible to alter the citation's appearance for inclusion in your open document.

HOW TO ACQUIRE THE "ENDNOTE" DATABASE APPLICATION PROGRAM:

If you wish to license a copy of the EndNote bibliography program, go to http://www.endnote.com for more information.

INSTALLATION:

The data files are distributed in compressed format to save disk space. WinZip Self-Extractor was used to compress the files. To install one or more data files that are compressed with a .ZIP extension, you will need to use a program capable of uncompressing .ZIP files to uncompress these files.
