Progress Report on 1997 System Dynamics Conference

Here is an update on ISDC'97:

We received about 230 abstracts (over 200 excluding Turkish ones). We (the local committee members) reviewed them and found about 200 of them "acceptable immediately." I am happy to report that the average quality (potential) of the abstracts looks very promising, although it never guarantees the final presentation to be of high quality. Most papers are from Europe and then from the USA, then from Japan, China, and a few papers from many, many countries from all over the world. (To give a quick idea, we have 88 papers from Europe - excluding Turkey (!) - and 53 papers from the USA, according to my quick count).

We have been estimating our costs and revenues and it looks like the following will be the fee structure:

SD Society Member Non-Member
Regular $ 280.00 $ 330.00
Student $ 140.00 $ 165.00

Since "estimating the true attendance" is crucial for us, there will be a $50 late registration charge for people registering after June 30.

We reserved blocks of rooms in five hotels in the region in order to provide some choice in terms of price and comfort. Four of the hotels are within the walking distance. The discounted rates for the conference are: $36, $66, $89 and $215, the ratings being 2-star, 4-star, 5-star and a "top-luxury" hotel/palace respectively.

Please let me know what you think of the above figures. I am appending below a copy of the standard "acceptance letter" which contains more information about the status of ISDC'97.

You will hear more in the near future.

Best regards to all,

Yaman Barlas
ISDC'97 Chair.

Appendix: Standard Acceptance Letter

The deadline for the camera-ready final papers is May 31, 1997. Please keep in mind that the regular maximum page limit is 4 pages per paper. Extra pages over this maximum will be charged $25 per page, up to an absolute maximum of 8 pages limit. Longer versions of the papers (without any page limit) will be accepted and compiled as "virtual proceedings" on our web site on the internet. We are also planning to prepare an "electronic proceedings" on a CD, consisting of full papers, with no page limit.

The allocation of the papers to Plenary and Parallel sessions will be made after the review of the final papers. You will shortly receive instructions for camera-ready paper preparation, virtual proceedings and CD proceedings formats and file types. You will also receive registration forms, fees, hotels and tour information.

Finally, as a cost control measure, a single registered participant will be allowed to present a maximum of 2 papers. An additional registrant/registration will be required over this 2-paper limit.

We have about 230 abstracts from all over the world. We thank you for your contributing to this very promising event and look forward to seeing you in Istanbul!

Sincerely,

ISDC 97 Program Committee
