2002 Annual Society Chapter Report

Nan Lux, Vice President for Chapters and Members

System Dynamics Society

I am happy to announce that the System Dynamics Society has had two new chapters formed in 2002.  The new Chapters are called the Student Chapter and the Latin American Chapter.  They join the other six official Society country chapters that are important in spreading the knowledge and use of system dynamics in their home lands.  A possible list of the current and proposed Chapters and their Society representatives looks like this:

George Papaioannou, Hellenic Chapter*

            Ozge Pala, Student Chapter

            Walid Badr, Egypt Chapter*

            Isaac Dyner, Latin American Chapter

            Robert Cavana, Australasia Chapter

            Qifan Wang, China Chapter

            Habib Sedehi, Italy Chapter

            Hironori Kurono, Japan Chapter

            Myoung Ho Lee, Korea Chapter

            Jonathan Coyle, United Kingdom Chapter

Two applications for chapters* will be voted on at the Palermo Conference Policy Council meetings.  They are applications by the members in Greece to form a Hellenic Chapter and the members in Egypt to form their own Chapter.  In the meantime, I have files ongoing from 14 other countries where there is some interest in forming official Society chapters.

A new kind of group is becoming an important addition in the structure of the System Dynamics Society.  The new groups are being called “Special Interest Groups.”  A Special  Interest Group is formed either by a location, as in Canada (see below), or by Interest Group subject, such as the Special Interest Group for Higher Education.  Here are some of the Special Interest Groups that I know of at this time.

• National Capital System Dynamics Interest Group, Ottowa, Canada (1998), contact Bob     Walker

• Special Interest Group for Higher Education (2001). Contact Carol Frances

• Special Interest Group in Public Policy (2002), contact Rod MacDonald

• Washington, DC System Dynamics Interest Group (Fall, 2002), contact John Richardson

In closing, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to Roberta Spencer, Executive Director of the System Dynamics Society, who has given me so much  assistance over the past three years in working with our members about Chapter affairs.  She has given me valuable and timely advice and research expertise.

Respectfully submitted,

Nan Lux
