| Position description |
We now need to expand our team with a highly proficient Database Specialist. In particular, we require specialists with the ability to design, query and analyse large longitudinal databases, coupled with the programming skills needed to reprocess large volumes of raw data.
The nature of our projects requires people who can rapidly understand and make use of the wide variety of data that our clients provide. Depending on the project, you will be required to either, replicate, redesign or build databases that could be 500m records or larger. A particular challenge of the role is translating business rule specifications into accurate and efficient longitudinal queries. |
| Required skills |
The essential prerequisites of the candidate we require include:
- A Computer Science or Information Science Degree (or a Postgraduate Degree in a Quantitative Discipline) from a leading University.
- At least 3years experience gained on managing and mining large databases including large longitudinal datasets
- The ability to design and implement efficient, medium-to-large, relational databases (in the order of 15 to 500 million records)
- Extensive data cleaning/pre-processing/reshaping/reclassification experience
- Proven ability in designing and implementing business rules to process longitudinal datasets (this may be using SQL, other database languages or within SAS or other)
- The ability to undertake post query processing and manipulation (e.g. re-weighting, scaling and projecting data)
- Strong Excel skills (especially integration with databases and VBA automation)
- Good problem solving skills in determining the appropriate analytical techniques to use for analysis
- The ability to interpret complex analysis and generate insights and recommendations

| Desired Skills |
- Familiarity with the core concepts of multivariate statistics and experience with one or more statistical packages (R, S-Plus, SAS, SPSS etc.)
- Linux/UNIX administration experience
- Ability to program in a compiled language (C, C++, Java etc).
- System Dynamics experience would be highly advantageous
