The Intelligent Modelling and Analysis Research Group in the School of Computer Science at Nottingham University invites applications for a PhD studentship in the wider area of "Strategic Modelling and Simulation of Human-Centred Complex Systems". In our research we develop novel tools for decision makers (e.g. managers, policy makers) to help those making better informed decisions. The research is highly interdisciplinary, utilising methods and knowledge from fields like Computer Science, Social Sciences, Psychology, Economics, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The position is open to students of any nationality, but non-UK students will require additional funding to cover tuition fees, which is awarded by the University on a competitive basis. | Required skills |
You will be responsible for developing advanced computational models for the analysis and prediction of potential consequences of policy implementations. To apply you will need to have a strong computing, mathematical, or engineering background and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Risk Analysis
- Complex Systems
- Social Network Analysis
- Multi-Agent Systems
- Systems Simulation
Additionally you should be able to write software programs, especially in Java or C++. A good working knowledge of statistics would be an advantage.
Students should have a first class undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and preferably also a good Masters degree and must be fluent in spoken and written English. |
